On February 3rd, 2007, an expedition of five set out backpacking
on the 3 mile trail to Wilson Pond. The trailhead to the pond is located on the south side of Route 28, near Eagle
Lake. It was a cold morning, temperatures in the low teens.

Me, Expediton Leader |
At half a mile, we came upon Grassy Pond. Then we crossed the
outlet to Rock Pond and headed up a ridge. We stopped a few times for water, and pictures. The trail entered dense
pines along Slim Pond. Blowdown from an earlier storm made passing difficult. The trail ends on the north shore of
Wilson Pond, where a lean-to is located.

Frozen Wilson Pond |
Once our tents were up, we ate, collected wood, then had wine while relaxing
around the fire. Later, we roasted cheddarwurst smoked sausages over
the coals. Before sleeping, I melted snow to fill my Nalgene bottles. It was a cold night, the temperature dropped below zero, so I slept with the Nalgenes in my bag to prevent freezing.
In the morning, after coffee and breakfast,
we packed up and moved out. The temperature was in the single digits, and the stiff wind made for a long hike out.
