Marcy Dam

Standing a lofty 5,344 feet above sea level, Mt. Marcy is the highest peak in the state of New York.  My friend, Tom, and I scaled Marcy on October 28th, 2006.  We took the Van Hoevenberg Trail, the shortest approach to the summit.  At 2 miles we reached Marcy Dam, a small lake surrounded by mountains on all sides.

From there on, it's all sweat and uphill tenacity.  Once above the tree line, we scaled the rock face leading up to the summit.  After the long 7 miles are over, you are rewarded with a panorama of mountain vistas.

The 14 mile round trip trek takes most of the day, and tests your stamina, desire and conditioning, but the spectacular views are well worth it.
