The Stillwater Reservoir is located in the western Adirondacks, 11 miles from Big Moose and 28 miles from Lowville.  Stillwater is "the place" for remote wilderness camping.  The reservoir has 128 miles of shoreline and 6,700 lake acres.

There are 46 designated sites, many on islands, all reachable only by water.  Sites are on a first-come, first-serve basis, and there is no fee for camping.  You must register with the Forest Ranger before setting out on the reservoir.

Stillwater offers plenty of nooks to navigate and explore, as well as a couple of hiking trails.  The water depth varies greatly with many shoals just beneath the surface, so boaters beware.

Stillwater is host to a large population of loons, as well as many nesting bald eagles.  With its sandy beaches and spectacular views, Stillwater is a great place for an Adirondack adventure!

No one's impressed by "indoorsy types!"
